Works related to electricity and water connection can be carried out only after obtaining a licence from the Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation (Kahramaa), a draft law stipulates.
After being briefed on the recommendations of the Advisory Council, the Cabinet took the necessary measures to issue a draft law pertaining to the regulation of electricity and water connection works, the official Qatar News Agency (QNA) reported.
The draft legislation has been prepared to replace Law No 4 of 1997 on the ‘procedures and fees for the connection of electricity and water supplies’, and Law No 29 of 2008 on the ‘works of electricity and water connection’.
The provisions of the draft law stipulate that Kahramma shall conduct works related to “electricity and water connections to premises, buildings and facilities, and make any additions, changes or transfers therein, and all acts of connection to or separation from the public network”, the QNA report states, adding that any of these tasks can be carried out only after getting a licence from the corporation.
The Cabinet had decided to refer the matter to the Advisory Council in September last year.
After HE the Prime Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani chaired the Cabinet’s regular weekly meeting at the Emiri Diwan, HE the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Ahmed bin Abdullah bin Zaid al-Mahmoud said the Cabinet approved a draft decision of HE the Minister of Municipality and Environment regarding banned plants in Qatar.
Under the draft decision, plants listed on the table annexed to this decision are prohibited to be planted in the State.
The Cabinet also gave its nod to a draft memorandum of understanding (MoU) for co-operation between Qatar Tourism Authority and Qatar National Convention Centre in the area of business tourism, a draft air services agreement between the governments of Qatar and the Netherlands regarding Curacao, and a draft MoU for cooperation in the field of technical and vocational education and training between the governments of Qatar and the Philippines.
Meanwhile, the meeting reviewed a memo of HE the Minister of Administrative Development, Labour and Social affairs on the outcome of the 33rd session of the GCC Labour Ministers’ Council and the GCC Social Affairs Ministers’ Council, as well as the outcome of the third meeting of the GCC Labour Ministers’ Committee and the third meeting of the GCC Social Affairs Ministers’ Committee (Riyadh - November 2016), and took the appropriate decision.
Renewal of licences for shops
The Cabinet gave its nod to a draft law that stipulates the renewal of licences for shops located in residential areas for a period of three years as of July 6, QNA reported.
In this regard, the regular weekly meeting of the Cabinet approved a decision of HE the Minister of Economy and Commerce amending some provisions of Decree No 70 of 2006 pertaining to shops in residential areas.
