Lekhwiya and El Jaish, two of Qatar top sports clubs will merge and will be known as Al Duhail Sports Club from the next sports season, the Ministry of Culture and Sports announced yesterday.
The merger is being done at the request of Lekhwiya and with the approval of El Jaish, the ministry added.
A committee is to be set up in order complete and supervise the procedures leading to the merger.
The committee will be made up of representatives of the two clubs, the parties concerned and the president of the Qatar Players Association. It will be chaired by the president of the Qatar Football Association.
Lekhwiya last week won the prestigious Qatar Stars League, while El Jaish are the current basketball champions.
