Katara-the Cultural Village successfully organised the Katara Tech Forum recently, aimed at raising public awareness on the latest advances in the fields of information and digital technology.
“Holding such forums is essential as it stems from Katara’s keenness to boost the awareness and use of technology, which is a key factor in the development of the sector,” Katara general manager Dr Khalid bin Ibrahim al-Sulaiti said at the opening ceremony, attended by Katara’s IT department director Thamer al-Qadi.
“It enhances discussions, seminars and lectures related to the IT field,” he noted.
The forum is scheduled to take place on the first Wednesday of every month.
Dr al-Sulaiti stressed that the forum is designed to attract young Qatari talent and promote public awareness on “the impact of IT on our lives today and the positive outcome of this knowledge in terms of driving the youth to further contribute towards the development of our country’s economy.”
He said they are keen to address issues faced by the youth in relation to IT, and assists in finding solutions to these problems by coordinating with concerned government bodies and scientific and research institutions.
“We hope that our efforts will culminate in finding better means to make our world cope with the rapid and unprecedented technological revolution today, and that this forum will offer real opportunities to Qatari youth as they march towards the future equipped with knowledge and hope,” he stressed.
Part of the programme includes a lecture about cyber security presented by Usman Durrani. In addition, the seminar held open discussions, engaging the audience in the open forum.
One of the participants, Woqod Institute, presented a new micro-chip, which was developed to facilitate in fuelling cars with petrol.
The Qatar Computing Research Institute at Hamad Bin Khalifa University attended the forum and presented a project related to the field.
