In a statement, the Foreign Ministry called for an international investigation and for taking immediate measures to protect the Syrian people. It also renewed Qatar’s demand to bring to justice all officials responsible for war crimes and crimes against humanity committed in Syria.
It stressed that letting the perpetrators go unpunished could have severe implications causing a further rise in violations and crimes in Syria.
A US intelligence official said yesterday that the gas attack “has the fingerprints” of an assault by the government of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
“If the Assad regime was indeed responsible for perpetrating this attack, the reported casualty figures would make it the biggest incident like this since the Syrian regime’s August 2013 sarin attack against the Damascus suburbs,” the official said.
