Ooredoo’s headquarters Tower One joined many prominent companies across the world by turning the iconic structure blue on Saturday night to observe World Autism Day.
Observed on April 2, World Autism Day aims to raise awareness on the issues and needs for people with autism. To help raise the profile of the day, organisations and governments across the world light important buildings blue.
World Autism Day has been observed across the world for eight years and this year Ooredoo took to social media to encourage everyone in Qatar to take part by educating themselves on autism and the facilities across Qatar that offer support for people living with autism.
Manar Khalifa al-Muraikhi, director, Community and Public Relations, Ooredoo Qatar, said: “We believe in celebrating diversity and serving the whole community. Raising awareness for important issues such as World Autism Day is a huge priority for us and we hope to support and highlight the work of Qatar’s amazing facilities and people.”
The company has also encouraged customers to share their photos of the special blue Ooredoo tower with the World Autism Day official hashtag #LIUB.
Foreign Ministry participates in World Autism Awareness Day
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs illuminated yesterday its buildings in blue to mark World Autism Awareness Day. Observing April 2 as World Autism Awareness Day is based on a proposal by Qatar, which was approved by the United Nations General Assembly in resolution no 62/139 back in the year 2007. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ celebration was in solidarity with an international campaign. The campaign is organised by Autism Speaks, an autism advocacy organisation in the United States, which called for illuminating famous buildings and landmarks around the world in blue to mark the occasion.
