The Bazm-e-Urdu Qatar organised an evening with Mohammad Mumtaz Lahori, a known poet, recently at the Deccan Hall.
Mumtaz left Qatar in 2014 after 36 years of service in Kahramaa and currently lives in the city of Lahore in Pakistan. He visits Qatar twice a year on short visits.
Mumtaz has authored 24 books and his latest novel, Nazi Nawaz, was launched at the BUQ event.
The programme was presided over by Mumtaz Rashid. BUQ Vice-President Mansoor Azmi was the chief guest, while Mohammad Naeem Akram (Editor of a quarterly magazine published from Lahore and Doha), also on short visit to Qatar, was the guest of honour. Dr Tausif Hashmi was the other guest of honour. A collection of Na’ats by Qatar-based Urdu poets was also launched at the event. Shumsuddin Shaikh read his article in honour of Mumtaz Rashid.
The second part of the event was a mushaira. The poets who read their poetry at the mushaira were: Mumtaz Rashid, Mansoor Azmi, Shafiq Akhtar, Asif Shafi, Aziz Nabeel, Ijaz Haider, Sayed Faheemuddin, Qaiser Masood, Ashfaq Deshmukh, Tahir Jamil, Anmol Ittefaq, Zareef Baloch, Sanwal Abbasi, and Shahid Sultan Azmi.
