KSD XI and Scorpions will face-off in the final of the QPlays Sixes Gully Cricket Carnival 2017 at the Asian Town International Cricket Stadium tomorrow. The league matches and the semi-finals of the inaugural tournament was held last Thursday and Friday, with 24 teams contesting for the top honours.
The event is organised by QPLAYS, in association with Ibn Ajayan Projects, one of the leading facility management companies in Qatar and QECC – The Largest Cricket Players Community in Qatar. The tournament is managed by Qbiz Events.
The final will held tomorrow from 8:45pm till 9:30pm, with the prize distribution ceremony scheduled at 9:45pm. Winners will take home a cash prize of QR 5,000 and a trophy, while the runner-up will get QR 2,500 and also a trophy.
In the two closely-contested semi-finals, KSD XI and Scorpions put up a strong show to enter the title clash. In the first semi-final, T Ishak’s all-round performance helped Scorpions beat Elite by 8 wickets in an exciting high-scoring match. Scorpions, who won the toss and elected to bowl, were left to rue their decision after Elite amassed 76 for 6 in six overs.
Elite lost five wickets cheaply, but A Azhar’s 37 (16 balls, 1x4, 4x6) and Fasalu Rahuman’s 22 (8b, 3x6) made sure they reached a healthy total. Ishak T took three wickets for Scorpions, while Rashid and Rizwan got one each
In reply, Scorpions reached the target in just 4.1 overs losing two wickets. Opener Faisal Moideen led the charge with a quick-fire 21 off just 7 balls. Ismail (16) and Ishak T (32) remained unbeaten to see their team through.
In the other semi-final, KSD XI beat CCRC by 13 runs. KSD XI, who were put into bat, scored 45 for 5 in the allotted six overs. Riyas R was the top-scorer with 11 runs, which came off just 5 balls and included a six and a four. Kasim K and Sadiq S contributed nine runs each. For CCRC, Ahfaz Ahmed Shah picked up two wickets, while Dawood A, Faslin Mohamed Ismail and Hadi Khorasani took one apiece.
In reply, CCRC could only manage 32 for 6 in six overs.  Kasim and Sadiq, who had contributed with bat for KSD, delivered with the bat too. They took two wickets each, so did Irshad. Hadi Khorasani and Mohammed Haseeb Khan scored 12 and 11 respectively for CCRC, but that wasn’t enough for them to reach the target.
