Leading logistics provider GWC has been recognised for its “continuing efforts in serving the local community” during the launch ceremony of the fifth National CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) Report, held during Qatar University (QU)’s CSR Exhibition and Conference.
The Qatar CSR Report monitors and evaluates the progress made each year in the area of sustainable development in society, with a particular focus on CSR and contributions to Qatar National Vision 2030.
A CSR award ceremony honouring those who have made significant contributions to these causes was held during the conference, attended by a number of dignitaries, industry experts and ambassadors.
GWC senior corporate communications manager Mohamed Daoud received the CSR Leadership award on behalf of the company from QU president Dr Hassan al-Derham.
“GWC understands that part of achieving its purpose in supporting Qatar National Vision 2030 is attending to the aims of its social pillar, and we have, therefore, participated in a variety of initiatives to ensure the development of a just and caring society based on high moral standards,” said Daoud.
In a press statement, GWC stressed it has participated in a wide variety of initiatives and programmes since its inception, with a focus on youth, health and heritage.
“GWC’s strong nationalistic orientation coheres strongly to the societal ideals put forth in the National Vision and finds expression in the varied initiatives it supports towards cultivating the spirit of service to community that it promotes both within and outside the company,” said GWC chairman Sheikh Abdullah bin Fahad bin Jassem bin Jabor al-Thani.
The company registered an increase of 11% in its net profit in 2016, the statement noted. It maintained its growth by “increasing its operational efficiencies, improving its profit margins and actively seeking new revenue streams”, drawing in gross revenues of QR849.5mn at the end of 2016, representing an 8% increase from QR787.9mn in 2015.
The company’s assets also continued to develop, with total assets reaching QR3.741bn by the end of December 2016.
