A wide range of topics on the realities and future challenges of the media industry in the country were the focus at a recent seminar hosted by the Department of Mass Communication at Qatar University’s College of Arts and Sciences (QU-CAS).

Themed “Qatar Media: Realities and Future Challenges,” the event tackled the department’s development process and assessed the qualifications of graduates who eye working in the media industry.
The seminar also highlighted the importance of providing training to graduates to enhance their skills and expertise in line with the ‘national sustainable development process’ and Qatar National Vision 2030.
Two sessions focused on the media sector’s view about the graduates of the department, impact of hands-on training on improving the overall students skills, requirements for employment in media institutions, new disciplines that attract the media sector, and co-operation between the department media institutions.
“This meeting comes in line with QU’s strategic plan that aims to strengthen co-operation between the university and industry, which will contribute to developing academic programmes in line with the needs and requirements of the labour market,” said CAS dean Dr Rashid al-Kuwari.
The opening ceremony was also attended by CAS Mass Communication Department head Dr Mahmoud Galander, professor Mohamed Kirat, a large number of media representatives, as well as CAS faculty and students.
Dr Galander thanked the media institutions in Qatar for their co-operation with the department and for providing faculty and students with training opportunities.
