The ongoing efforts of the country’s schools to reduce the consumption of electricity in their premises were lauded by the Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa), Supreme Council for Delivery and and Legacy (SC)  and the Ministry of Education and Higher Education at a ceremony yesterday as part of the second anniversary of the Tarsheed 22 (T22) Energy Efficiency Project.
At the function, held in the presence of HE the Minister for Energy and Industry Dr Mohamed bin Saleh al-Sada, Kahramaa president and senior engineer Issa bin Hilal al-Kuwari and SC secretary general Hassan al-Thawadi, Asst Under Secretary for Education Affairs in the Ministry of Education Fousiya al-Khater, schools, individuals and teachers were honoured for their contributions to make T22 a remarkable achievement.
At the meeting it was announced that T22 was highly successful in the second year running and there was a carbon emission reduction of approximately 688 tonnes during the period. “This has brought Qatar one step closer to achieving a carbon-neutral  FIFA 2022 World Cup, which the country is readying to host in another five years,” said al-Kuwari.
The top Kahramaa official said along with promoting energy efficiency in the country, T22 is almost aimed at the promotion of sport, healthy living style, and optimal use of resources among the country’s schoolchildren. He said the Tarsheed campaign has helped creating increasing awareness about the importance of the whole issue of conservation of the  energy and water resources.
Al-Thawadi said through the ongoing conservation campaign Qatar has showed the world that the effective and optimal use of such blessings as water and energy is not only this country’s responsibility but the rest of the world also has to think in similar lines.
