New ‘made in Qatar’ radars will be installed on Qatar roads soon to monitor traffic violations and help improve traffic safety, Brigadier Mohamed Saad al-Kharji, the Director General of the General Directorate of Traffic, has announced.
“The new speed radars have been developed using advanced technology and conform to international standards,” Brigadier al-Kharji said on the occasion of the 33rd GCC Traffic Week, taking place at Darb Al Saai.
He added that the new radars have been developed in co-operation with private companies and will be put on trial for one year to evaluate their performance.
Brigadier al-Kharji noted that the annual event saw an increase in the number of participating companies, activities, seminars and contribution aimed at raising traffic awareness to all sectors of the society.
He also cited the Department’s efforts in raising awareness among motorists, especially the youth, which contributed in reducing deaths due to road accidents in recent years.
Omani delegation head Major Zakia bint al-Sennawi lauded the contribution of public and private sectors in organising the event.
Captain Bader al-Mutairy from Kuwait said the preparations for the GCC Traffic Week celebrations in Doha are huge and “every corner has a unique impact and gives a new contribution in the campaign”.
Kuwaiti delegation head Captain Badr Hmadan al-Motairi and Bahrain delegation head First Leutanant Mohamed Mubarak al-Haji also lauded the organisation of the activities at Darb Al Saai.
