Under the patronage of HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani, the fifth Qatar International Agricultural (Agriteq) Exhibition will be held from March 22 to 25 at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Centre.
The event will be attended by hundreds of local and international companies from the agriculture industry.
HE the Minister of Municipality and Environment Mohamed bin Abdullah al-Rumaihi said the exhibition is being held at a time when Qatar is witnessing a boom in the local agriculture sector which seeks to enhance the contribution of the sector in Qatar’s GDP to more than 4% annually in line with the economic diversification policy pursued by the state in the context of achieving Qatar National Vision (QNV) 2030.
In a press statement, the Minister said Agriteq Exhibition is an opportunity to bring together decision-makers, industry leaders and stakeholders from across the region and the world under one roof, to exchange experiences and ideas to come up with recommendations and effective solutions that promote optimal investment in agricultural projects and livestock production allowing the local and international companies to establish business and enter into new partnerships in the local market.
Qatar adopts a strategic agricultural plan aimed at achieving self-sufficiency in agricultural production and vegetables by 2030, through upgrading local food industry and reducing dependence on imported products, al-Rumaihi said, and referred to a study which shows that 90% of Qatar’s food products were imported.
HE Sheikh Dr Faleh bin Nasser al-Thani, Assistant Undersecretary of Agricultural Affairs, Livestock and Fisheries at the Ministry of Municipality and Environment and Chairman of the Steering Committee of the Organisation and Supervision of Agriteq Exhibition said the event will witness an auction where participants will showcase animals and birds.
This initiative is aimed at attracting investors and experts working in this field and introduce them to some of the most important animal wealth in Qatar, he explained.
The event also pays special attention to children in order to enrich their knowledge in the agricultural and environmental fields and disseminate the culture of food security and best agricultural and green practices, Dr al-Thani said.
