Vodafone organised its AmanTECH Digital Safety activity at the Ministry of Transport and Communications’ (MoTC) TumuhaTEC Youth Festival held during the recent Qitcom, which informed schools, children and parents about online safety.
The festival saw 2,500 students from 50 Qatari and international schools taking part with more than 500 students participating in the AmanTECH activity.
The activity required the children to perform tasks related to safety online to learn specific skills, including identifying fake news versus real, safe online gaming, self-image and reputation online.
This comes under the banner of AmanTECH, Vodafone’s aid programme for online child safety. Launched in May 2014, AmanTECH, which stands for “safe tech world”, aims at promoting digital literacy among parents and improving children’s digital safety.
Dana Haidan, head of CSR at Vodafone Qatar, said: “At Vodafone, we aim to empower children with the right tools and understanding to navigate the digital world safely and to take full advantage of its benefits. We are committed to make AmanTech a long-term initiative that will provide children and their parents with everything they need to know and do to stay safe in today’s ever-expanding digital world.”
In 2017, AmanTech will continue to reach out to parents and children aged between five and 17 years, according to the statement. The programme will adopt a three-pronged approach with a focus on awareness, education and technical support.
