The State of Qatar affirmed that its constitution guarantees non-discrimination against persons with disabilities, acknowledges that the principle of equality is one of the fundamental pillars of the Qatari society.
This came yesterday in a speech delivered by Nora Ibrahim al-Sada, Second Secretary of Qatar’s permanent mission to the UN Office in Geneva before the 34th session of the UN Human Rights Council, during the interactive discussion on rights of persons with disabilities.
The principle of equality and non-discrimination is a key element in all human rights conventions, and the basis for the enjoying of all rights and freedoms, said al-Sada stressing that Qatar has worked to ensure that the principle of equality and non-discrimination between persons with disabilities and other citizens in the constitution and in the national laws.
She explained that Qatar has promoted this principle through adopting public policies and plans which emphasise the concept of comprehensive equality.
