Hosts Al Khor and visitors Al Arabi played out a 1-1 draw in a keenly-fought Qatar Stars League clash yesterday evening.
Al Khor opened the scoring through Madson in the first half but Al Arabi found the equaliser in the second half — via an own goal from the home side — at Al Khor Stadium.
In the early part of the match, Al Khor’s Madson curled in a beautifully-taken free-kick that narrowly missed the crossbar in the 5th minute. Khor’s early pressure tolled as they grabbed the early goal following a freakish opportunity that fell in their lap in the 25th minute.
Al Arabi goalkeeper Mohamed Dawood failed to clear the ball inside his own box, a lapse that saw Al Khor’s Aldbulkareem Ali try to snatch the loose ball.
However, Madson emerged as the faster runner against Ali, charging towards the ball before easily slotting the ball home with a powerful strike to give his side the lead.
A few minutes later, Al Arabi’s Luiz Jimenez produced a snap-header that clipped the Al Khor crossbar before going out of play, without troubling the Al Khor goal. In the second half, Al Arabi made the most of some good fortune when Al Khor’s Abdulla Aisa was guilty of an own goal, allowing the visitors the much-needed equaliser in the 49th minute.
In the 56th minute, Al Khor’s Madson produced a powerful shot that ricocheted off the Al Arabi woodwork. Neither side managed to score again as the game ended 1-1.
In another match, Al Ahli beat Al Shahaniya 3-2.
