The Cultural Village Foundation - Katara played host to a large number of visitors as curtains went up on the sixth edition of Halal Qatar Festival.

The theme of the nine-day festival centres on a distinct feature of the Qatari heritage, one that is drawn from the deserts of Qatar - sheep and goat breeding. The festival will present specific methods that help in breeding and raising sheep and also showcase numerous traditional events along with educational and recreational activities.

Halal Qatar, which runs until March 4, is an opportunity to revive the Qatari heritage and relive their simple lives amidst the dunes, at Al-Mazain, Al-Mazad Auction, and sheep barns presentation.

Inaugurating the festival, Katara general manager Dr Khalid bin Ibrahim al-Sulaiti, said it is one of the most important events hosted by the Cultural Village, as it attracts local and regional visitors.

“Katara has always recognised the necessity of promoting local enterprises in a manner that is both sustainable and competitive. Halal Qatar Festival is in line with its efforts to provide a platform to such businesses, to display their live-stock products to the public.

“An exciting expansion of the event this year involves allocating more prizes that include 27 cars for the winners,” he said.

Halal Qatar Festival organising committee chairman Khalid al-Shahawani explained that Al-Mazan contest stresses on 12 new terms and conditions.

The festival provides visitors a rare opportunity to interact with livestock breeders and businesses, and purchase products of exceptional quality. The event has always been a big hit with children, who are delighted with the chance to observe livestock penned up in enclosures at the Village premises.
