Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) has partnered with the Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS) to open a series of humanitarian projects in Bekaa, Lebanon.
KRCS chairman Dr Helal al-Sayer and QRCS’ head of mission in Lebanon, Omar Katerji signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) and visited the new projects in Bekaa.
The tour was attended by representatives from the Lebanese Minister of Refugee Affairs representatives, Qatar embassy in Lebanon, Lebanese Red Cross, and the chargé d’affaires of the Kuwaiti embassy in Beirut, chief doctor of Zahlé, Majdal Anjar mayor, and the Ghiras Al Khair Foundation chairman.
The group inaugurated a mobile mammography clinic in Majdal Anjar, which offers a full range of services such as awareness to examination, diagnosis, and treatment.
With one in eight women are prone to breast cancer, Dr al-Sayer stressed the importance of the project saying it will ensure early detection and high curability among women in remote refugee camps.
Such joint projects form part of the humanitarian track record of the partners support extended by the Gulf Co-operation Council.
Majdal Anjar is a border village that hosts 40,000-45,000 Syrian refugees.
Later, a $70,000 agreement to cover the costs of dialysis for 20 renal patients over three months was signed at the Bekaa Hospital, Taanayel. Kidney transplantations will also be performed.
