Dear Sir,
I am the parent a student in Doha Modern Indian School (DMIS) and I strongly oppose the management’s forced implementation of RFID badges for students for several reasons, most of which have already been mentioned clearly in the letter published in Gulf Times on February 16.
Additionally, I want to state that there have been no scientific studies on the long-term effects of this kind of radiation on children, who will be exposed to it for several hours every day. As a scientist working in the field of genetics, I know that without proper studies, nobody can ensure the safety of any such device like the RFID.
Also the school has enough security personnel and CCTV coverage to make it secure. Hence there is no need for the use of an invasive tracking system like the RFID. Forcing students to use RFID will encourage many to cheat the system.
As parents, we would be happy if the school focuses its attention on more important and relevant issues like the curriculum, weight of school bags and many other pertinent matters that directly affect the future of our children.

Qatar is very safe, RFID not required
Dear Sir,
This is with regard to the letter “Do children need to be monitored with RFIDs?” that appeared in Gulf Times on February 16.
My children also study in this school. I too am 100% not in favour of these RFID tags for our children. Like me, I am sure there are many who are not in favour of these tags. It is too expensive, a health risk and definitely not a requirement in a safe country like Qatar.
The school should through a survey involving the parents of the children find out how many of them are in favour and how many are against these tags. I am sure a majority of the parents will be against introducing this measure in the school.
I request the Ministry of Education to look into this and recall their approval.

Scrap RFID rule
Dear Sir,
This is with reference to the letter published in Gulf Times on February 16, highlighting the futility of introducing RFID badges for schoolchildren. I agree with the points raised in that letter. I strongly protest this RFID rule implemented by the school authorities. It should be scrapped immediately. I cannot find any reasonable explanation that is in favour of the children for implementing this step.
