A large number of QIIB employees joined the National Sport Day celebrations yesterday by taking part in a variety of events and activities.
Despite the rain, the Walkathon organised by Qatar Central Bank on the Doha Corniche was well-attended. QIIB CEO Abdulbasit Ahmad al-Shaibei and senior bank executives were among the participants.
They gathered early in the morning in front of QIIB’s headquarters on Grand Hamad Street before heading together to the marathon’s start point on the Doha Corniche.
On QIIB’s participation in the National Sport Day events, al-Shaibei said: “We follow in the steps of HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani and draw inspiration from his noble guidance, which confirms the importance of sports in our daily life.
“Qatar National Vision 2030 has laid down the role of sport and today Doha has become one of the major sports capitals in the world. National Sport Day reflects the major role undertaken by our beloved country in relation to sports, on both regional
and international levels.
“At QIIB, we are keen on enhancing the value of sports even as we are a banking institution with a significant economic contribution to the nation. The bank is keen as well on playing its full role in serving the community by supporting and participating in events such as sports, which are celebrated during National Sport Day. The activities are centred around building a healthy and vibrant community.”
The QIIB CEO referred to the bank’s contribution to the Sport and Social Activities Support Fund in addition to supporting and sponsoring several sporting activities and events, especially at the national level.
Further, al-Shaibei expressed conviction that the annual events of National Sport Day have achieved significant results with the active participation of nationals and residents.
