There is a chance of “mostly scattered light rain” this morning, the Qatar Met department has said in a special forecast for National Sport Day that will be celebrated across the country today.
The forecast, which particularly focuses on the period extending from 8am to 1pm today, comes as the country continues “to be affected by an extension of a low-pressure system”.
Cloudy conditions will prevail in Doha and there is a chance of scattered light rain, while the temperature will range from 19C to 22C.
The forecast for other parts of the country says it will be cloudy and there is a possibility of scattered light to moderate rain. The temperature will range between 18C and 23C.
Chances of thundershowers are expected to improve during the evening and night, the report states.
Rain was detected in different parts of the country yesterday as well, with the intensity increasing late in the evening in Doha and some other places. The Met department tweeted about thundery rain in Doha around 9.30pm even as ‘thunder cells’ were detected at a number of places in the country through the day.
Besides thundershowers in some places at times, strong winds are also expected in both inshore and offshore areas along with high seas.
Winds will blow at 5-15 knots in inshore areas, reaching a high of 25 knots in some places at times during thundershowers. Offshore, the wind speed will be 15-25 knots, going up to 30 knots during thundery rain and decreasing to 10-20 knots later.
The Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME), meanwhile, tweeted about the removal of rainwater that had accumulated in some places due to the rain. All roads were cleared in a “very short time”, the MME said, highlighting the efforts undertaken across different municipalities under the public cleaning programme.
