The Ministry of Economy and Commerce (MEC) Technical Committee to Stimulate Private Sector Participation in Economic Development Projects has offered a number of projects in fish farming and aquaculture through a public tender.
The projects include three licenses to establish three fish farming projects in floating cages in the sea at the northern areas of the country, in addition to another license to establish a project for prawns’ cultivation at El Arish costal area.
The total marine area allocated for the first three project amounts to 270 hectares, with 90 hectares for each fish farm.
The MEC pointed out that the annual productivity of each of these projects should not be less than 2,000 tonnes a year, on condition that these projects reach the maximum production capacity within 36 months of implementing the project, after signing the contract.
“The projects aim to reduce the gap between the supply and demand in the domestic market of high-quality products of both fish and prawns, and develop a strategic stock of them with competitive prices by the private sector,” the MEC stressed.
