Pakistan’s President Mamnoon Hussain met HE Hamad bin Abdulaziz al-Kuwari, Adviser at the Emiri Diwan and Qatar’s candidate for the post of director general at the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (Unesco).
During the meeting, which took place on Tuesday night at the presidential palace in Islamabad, HE al-Kuwari conveyed the greetings of HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani to president of Pakistan and his best wishes of more progress and prosperity to the Pakistani people.
President Mamnoon Hussain reciprocated the Emir’s wishes and greetings and praised the strong bilateral relations between Qatar and Pakistan, hoping for more co-operation in different fields and stressing his support for the Qatari candidate.
Dr al-Kuwari briefly presented his vision and plan to fight the obstacles facing Unesco, and thanked the president for his time.
Dr al-Kuwari also met the Adviser to Pakistan’s Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs, Sartaj Aziz, and presented him with his vision. Aziz wished Dr al-Kuwari good luck in his mission.
In addition, the Qatari candidate presented his vision to Marriyum Aurangzeb, Minister of State for Information Broadcasting and National Heritage, who praised the cultural relations between Pakistan and Qatar, hoping to develop them further.
Aurangzeb praised Qatar’s role in preserving Islamic heritage through the Unesco. The meetings were attended by Qatar’s ambassador to Pakistan Saqr bin Mubarak al-Mansouri.
