The World Organisation for Renaissance of Arabic Language (Woral), a member of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF), has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) to establish an Arabic language section at the latter’s library.
The MoU aims to promote the use of Arabic in Malaysia and other Asian countries, and will see Woral offer educational and cultural programmes across Malaysia.
The document was co-signed by Dr Abdulaziz al-Subai’ei, chair of the Board of Trustees of Woral, and Dr Musa Ahmad, vice-chancellor of USIM, in the presence of officials, academics and researchers who share a mutual interest in the promotion of Arabic language and Islamic culture.
Dr al-Subai’ei said the agreement reflects the importance Woral attribute to building partnerships around the world, as well as building bridges for cultural interaction and support of the Arabic language.
The MoU facilitates the improvement of Arabic language standards for teachers, equipping them with skills to teach non-Arabic speakers. It also attempts to enhance content on the Internet, as well as promote the exchange of experimental research studies.
Dr Ali al-Kubaisi, director general of Woral, said, “As part of our efforts to promote the renaissance of Arabic throughout the world, we selected USIM library to house an Arabic section. This is because we recognise the countries that are interested in learning more about our language and culture. We look forward to taking this experience to other countries in the future.”
Dr Musa Ahmad, vice chancellor of USIM, stated that the agreement will focus on the enhancement of Arabic language education, not only in Malaysia, but in other Asian countries, too.
Woral was established in 2013.
