The Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) has launched “Our Shepherds” campaign, in co-operation with a number of local charities and private entities to improve the living conditions of the livestock raisers.
The campaign aims at offering livestock owners or shepherds, due care at their farms and herding places to boost the livestock wealth in the country. The participating entities include Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS), Qatar Charity (QC), Sheikh Thani bin Abdulla for Humanitarian Services (RAF), and Eid Charity, in addition to other private entities.
Khalaf Ajlan al-Anzi, public relations director, MME, pointed out that the campaign is part of the ministry’s keenness to develop the livestock wealth in the country. The campaign also offers the best possible services to those working in the field, in particular shepherds, aiming at achieving self-sufficiency in meat and dairy products.
During the campaign, shepherd bags will be distributed to the beneficiaries at their place of work. The bag includes a first-aid kit, personal hygiene tools and materials and a coat, besides other basic things. QRCS will offer medical services and health check-ups to the shepherds and give them awareness lectures on related topics. Other charities will offer them gifts and various services to stress their importance in the society.
Al-Anzi added there is a plan to run the campaign each year in other fields targeting categories such as fishermen and sailors.
