Security agencies prevented a suicide by an Asian expatriate worker and rescued him after he started climbing an electricity tower to reach a high-voltage power line, the Ministry of Interior (MoI) reported on social media.

The competent authorities have launched an investigation into the circumstances of the incident, the MoI said.
Security agencies comprising the police, Civil Defence and Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya) reached the spot after the National Command Centre received a call about an Asian expatriate trying to commit suicide.
On arriving at the scene, the security personnel tried to calm the worker even as power supply to the line was disconnected. They engaged in a dialogue with the man, which continued for a long time, and he was also connected to his wife in his home country through a telephone. He spoke to her via the loudspeaker.
Finally, the Civil Defence personnel were able to reach him with a crane and brought him down from the electricity pylon.
The security agencies prevented the suicide and saved the Asian worker’s life as part of their “humanitarian and societal role to enhance security and the preservation of life and property”, the MoI report said.
