The Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC), through its ‘Screen for Life’ programme, is urging Qatar residents to undergo screening for breast and bowel cancer on the occasion of World Cancer Day today.

Screen for Life, conducted under Qatar’s National Cancer Programme and in accordance with the country’s National Health Strategy 2011-2016, has had a successful first year of operations reaching thousands and raising awareness of the importance of early screening.
But with global cancer rates on the rise, Screen for Life is working hard to make people more aware of how screening can help in the early detection of cancer.
“On the occasion of World Cancer Day, we would like to remind the people of Qatar of the importance of the breast and bowel cancer screening,” said Dr Shaikha Abu Shaikha, manager, Cancer Programme at PHCC, who pointed out the availability of three dedicated screening centres and a mobile screening unit.
Early detection of cancer through screening helps to save lives. Women aged 45-69 are urged to get screened for breast cancer, while men and women aged 50-74 have to screen for bowel cancer.
The three PHCC screening facilities are located at Rawdat Al Khail Health Centre, the Leabaib Health Centre and Al Wakra Health Centre, while the Mobile Screening Unit is accessible to a multitude of communities across the country offering mammogram services to eligible ladies.
To know more about the screening and to book an appointment for screening, people can call the dedicated Screen for Life call centre on 800 1112.
