Texas A&M University at Qatar (Tamuq) welcomed potential master’s students for the Graduate Studies Open House at the Texas A&M Engineering Building.
The event aimed to answer questions for prospective students about Tamuq’s master’s programmes in chemical engineering.
Dr César O Malavé, dean of Tamuq, said, “Our branch campus’s core mission of teaching, research and scholarship is cultivating a new generation of engineering leaders and researchers who will have a direct impact on Qatar’s growth and development. You’ll have a chance to be involved in responsive research that is tackling the world’s toughest issues and contribute to Qatar’s goal of being a knowledge-based economy.”
Potential graduate students were invited to the event to interact with current students and recently graduated students. Faculty and administrators were present to provide information on the programme and on part-time employment options for full time students through teaching and research assistantships.
Prospective graduate students learned about Texas A&M at Qatar’s graduate programme offerings, degree eligibility requirements and the resources offered including financial aid opportunities and flexible schedules.
Dr Patrick Linke, executive director of graduate studies and chair of the Chemical Engineering Programme at Texas A&M at Qatar, said, “Potential graduate students learned about our programmes, resources and campus life. There were presentations by our current students about their research projects in areas relevant to the Qatar National Vision 2030 for sustainable development.”
Linke also emphasised that Texas A&M at Qatar’s flexible class schedules allow part-time studies for those students who are employed full time in industry or government.
Many current graduate students spoke to the prospective students and answered questions. The newly launched Graduate Student Association also actively participated in the event and presented on academic life at Texas A&M at Qatar.
As a part of the fourth Oryx GTL Student Awards campaign for the Advancement of Post-Graduate Education, Oryx GTL held its first student seminars during the Graduate Studies Open House to enhance the dialogue between students, academic institutions and industry.
Applications for the Master of Science and Master of Engineering programmes are being accepted for the Fall 2017 semester and will remain open until May 15.
