Katara’s esplanade will host the fourth edition of the Winter Festival from January 22 to 26, the organisers have announced.
The festival will include workshops, traditional shows, games and performances, allowing residents of Qatar to make the most of the prevailing pleasant weather, according to a press statement from Katara.
Dr Khalid bin Ibrahim al-Sulaiti, general manager of Katara - the Cultural Village Foundation, said: “The Winter Festival at Katara offers a diverse array of events, a blend of educational programmes and entertaining performances that are guaranteed to enthral Katara’s visitors. Aside from these, numerous workshops and activities devoted to children will allow them to experience exciting moments, along with their families and friends.
In addition, holding the Winter Festival this time of the year coincides with the schools’ spring break, providing children with an “opportunity to invest their free time in activities that are both meaningful and useful”, he noted.
Abdulrahman al-Tamimi, head of the organising committee of the Winter Festival, said: “The fourth edition of the festival, coupled with the serenely beautiful setting of Katara, will offer an atmosphere for people from all walks of life to relax and enjoy the ambience.”
“The launch of the Winter Festival will coincide with the inauguration of the Arabian Oud Festival, a new initiative at Katara. To be conducted on the festival’s sidelines, the Arabian Oud Festival will entail an exhibition that will display Arabian scents, explaining the specific history, literature, folklore and tradition associated with oud fragrances.”
Further, al-Tamimi said the Winter Festival will be hosted in collaboration with various ministries and organisations in Qatar, including the Ministry of Municipality and Environment and the Childhood Cultural Centre.
“Al-Gannas Association will participate with an interactive exhibition and workshop on falconry and Saluki. In addition, Katara Souq will host a display of local antiques and traditional food,” he added.
Bin Muftah Medical Centre will present an informative evening on preventing illnesses commonly associated with the onset of winter. An added attraction will be the presence of Qatari blogger Vegas, who will entertain visitors with his interpretation of the Winter Festival.
Besides, the organisers of Al-Galayel Championship will host an exhibition displaying collectables and equipment from all previous championships.
Visitors to the festival will receive gifts donated by various institutes in Qatar.
