With the launch of Automated Frequency Management System (AFMS) and Automated Spectrum Monitoring System (ASMS) yesterday, Qatar is now among the region’s best in spectrum managing and monitoring capacities, a senior official of the Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA) said.
“The upgraded National Monitoring Centre (NMC), which was formally launched yesterday, is undoubtedly the best in the Middle East,” he claimed.
With AFMS in place, such spectrum processes as allocation, assignment, and licensing are now automated. They include the maintenance of the national frequency allocation plan, channelling/block plans, assignment of technical frequency, co-ordination and notification in accordance with International Telecommunications Union and bi-lateral and multilateral agreements with neighbouring countries.
Such tasks as determining accurate frequency assignments, and issuing, renewing, modifying, cancelling all frequency licenses and authorisations of different radio communication services and applications are also covered.
The AFMS reduces the processing time of frequency assignments and licences. As a result more spectrum requests could be handled than usual. It would pave way for not only more revenue but also better efficiency in the management of spectrum as well.
The system would benefit the spectrum user, improve the spectrum management capabilities of the department concerned at the CRA.
