Qatar University (QU) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Aspetar Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Hospital (Aspetar) to establish collaboration in the field of medical education and research.
The MoU was signed by QU vice president for medical and health education and College of Medicine (CMED) dean Dr Egon Toft and Aspetar acting director general Dr Mohamed Ghaith al-Kuwari.
As per the agreement, Aspetar will provide highly qualified international faculty to educate QU medical students in Sports and Exercise Medicine (SEM) at Aspetar clinics. Faculty from QU and Aspetar will also work jointly to establish an undergraduate SEM curriculum for medical students.
Other areas of collaboration include the joint provision of Continuing Medical Education and Continuing Professional Development programmes to benefit local and regional healthcare practitioners, as well as joint research projects in relevant areas.
Dr Toft said partnering with Aspetar will definitely enrich the curriculum and serve students in their journey towards becoming distinguished health
professionals.
“At QU, we recognise the important role that SEM has in promoting health and preventing disease and injury, and we are always committed to serve the needs of the community by building capacity in clinical practice, medical education and research. We are optimistic that the collaboration with Aspetar will be helpful in all these areas.”
Dr al-Kuwari added that the agreement is considered as a step forward to attract students to SEM as a specialty
