Qatar is interested in investing in Nepal’s hydropower, hospitality, tourism and telecom sectors, the central Himalayan nation’s Foreign Minister Prakash Sharan Mahat has said in Doha.
Mahat, who was in Doha last week on a three-day official visit, was speaking at a reception organised by the Nepalese embassy at the ambassador’s residence.
Elaborating on the bilateral relationship between Nepal and Qatar, Mahat referred to his meetings with HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, HE the Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani and HE the Minister of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs Dr Issa Saad al-Jafali al-Nuaimi.
“I feel lucky to have conducted such high-level meetings between the two countries after 12 years. I am happy that HH the Emir praised the Nepalese workers as honest and hardworking,” Mahat said while recalling that the bilateral relationship between the two countries has a history of four decades.
The Nepalese Foreign Minister revealed that his meetings revolved around raising the quota of semi-skilled Nepalese workers, issuing 24-hour insurance policy, amending the 2005 labour agreement between the two countries, preparing safe housing facilities for workers, and enhancing co-ordination and co-operation between the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs and the Nepalese Embassy.
“I have invited Qatar’s Foreign Minister to make an official visit to Nepal and he replied that he will visit soon,” said Mahat who praised the Nepali community’s unity and co-operation with the embassy.
The Nepalese Foreign Minister also requested his compatriots in Qatar to follow the rules and regulations of their host nation.
Nepalese Foreign Affairs secretary Shankar Bairagi, Ministry of Labor and Employment joint secretary Govinda Vurtel, Nepalese embassy charge d’ Affaires Mani Ratna Sharam and a number of community members were present.
