Around 50 animal farms benefited from this programme last year. The department granted and renewed licences for eight projects for livestock production including poultry meat, and mutton. Accordingly, meat production is expected to be 21,000 tonnes annually.
A total of 2,217 artificial insemination operations were conducted during last year until August 2016. As many as 5,000 stray cats were surgically neutered. The agriculture and animal quarantine inspected and checked around 1.4mn animals last year.
