The flower festival at Al Khor and Al Thakhira yard, organised by the Ministry of Municipality and Environment's (MME) Agriculture Affairs Department, concludes on Saturday.
The festival, which was opened on Thursday, has enjoyed a considerable public turnout, with large numbers of visitors. Six local companies are taking part, displaying their collections of locally produced flowers.
Agriculture Affairs Department director Yousef al-Khelaifi, pointed out that through the flowers festival, MME wants to attract the largest possible number of visitors to the yards, and promote the local products, which also include honey and farm produce.
The same festival will be organised at Al Wakrah yard next March. In addition, many more festivities and events will be conducted at other yards such as the honey festival at Al Mazrouah yard next week.
Al Khelaifi said that during the last edition of the festival, around 20,000 flowers were sold to the public, and more are expected to be sold during this edition.
Abdulrahman al-Sulaiti, general supervisor of the local agriculture produce display yards, stressed the importance of such events in promoting local products, while giving consumers more options to decorate their homes and gardens.
