An official delegation of Chevron Phillips Chemical Company Qatar has presented QR360,000 donation to Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) as part of the latter’s annual ‘Together for Benevolence’ programme, which aims to support expatriate workers and promote corporate social responsibility in humanitarian activities.
This year’s initiative focuses on securing the basic needs of 4,500 expatriate workers during the winter, by distributing 3,500 food packages and 1,000 winter clothing bags at their work sites across Qatar. The food packages will be composed of basic food staples like rice, sugar, oil, tea and canned foods, while the clothing bags will contain blankets, gloves, scarves, socks and caps.
The Chevron Phillips Chemical Qatar delegation comprised president Mitchell Eichelberger, finance manager Darren Ercolani and human resources specialist Ricardo Costa Almeida.
The guests were welcomed by QRCS secretary general Ali Hassan al-Hammadi, resources mobilisation director Saad Shaheen al-Kaabi, communication director Issa Mohamed al-Ishaq and corporate relations head Hamid Moharrar.
The secretary-general noted that the donation was aligned with the country’s national strategy of allocating considerable funds to improve the living standards of expatriate workers and ensure their welfare, thus making the work environment in Qatar an example among labour importing countries. “This year, we will focus on winterisation and food aid to protect expatriate workers against the cold weather,” he added.
Eichelberger expressed his pleasure in reinforcing Chevron Phillips Chemical Qatar’s relationship and commitment with QRCS in its vision to contribute to social and humanitarian services, specifically supporting expatriate workers during the winter in Qatar.
The first two versions of ‘Together for Benevolence’ successfully covered more than 48,000 workers. During the programme’s execution, QRCS teamed up with Chevron Phillips Chemical Qatar’s officials to visit various work sites to distribute meals, water and juice bottles, and hygiene kits, in co-ordination with the corporations and bodies concerned.
