Qatar’s Mubarak al-Rumaihi, riding Vivaldi K, picks up top prize in 135cm event
For the second consecutive day, Saudi Arabia’s Ramzy Hamad al-Duhami and his horse Garlic VH Kapelhof claimed the top prize of the day in the QR 1.35m Qatar International Show Jumping Championship yesterday.
The duo, who won the Special Two Phases 145cm event on Day One, returned to the Qatar Equestrian Federation Main Arena to once again dazzle the audience in the 145cm (Table A, One round against the clock, Art. 238.2.1) event, which was also a qualifying competition for the FEI World Cup.
They completed the routine with zero faults in 63.70secs, bagging the prize of QR 67,500.
Turkey’s Derin Demirsoy, riding Narazo De Nyze Z, took home QR54,000 for faultless effort of 65.70 seconds, edging out Reed Kessler of the United States and his bay gelding Cos I Can, who finished their routine in 65.72 seconds.
Qatar’s Olympian showjumper Sheikh Ali bin Khalid al-Thani, riding Carolina 31 from Stone Hill Farm, had to settle for fifth spot, after clocking 69.66secs with no faults.
Qatari rider Mubarak Yousuf al-Rumaihi was impressive on Vivaldi K, picking up the top prize in the CSI4* 135cm (One round against the clock with jump-off) event yesterday.
A flawless ride in a time of 30.36 seconds on his 14-year-old chestnut gelding meant that the 32-year-old Rumaihi, brother of Olympian Ali al-Rumaihi, won QR 11,250 besides a trophy.
In second place was compatriot Hamad al-Attiyah on his mount, Cassander Van Het Bremhof. The duo completed the routine in 32.59secs for a prize of QR 9,000.
Salman Mohammed al-Emadi on Zorro Z ensured a podium sweep for Qatar in the event, finishing third in a time of 33.03 secs and was awarded QR 6,750 for the effort.
Qatar’s Rashid al-Marri on Beyonce was fourth in 33.96 secs, followed by three riders from Saudi Arabia.
Earlier, riding under the FEI banner, Kuwait’s Ali al-Khorafi clocked 33.72 seconds on his mount Ungarin 4 with no penalties to win the CSI4* 120cm category, picking up a prize of QR 8,750.
Qatar’s Mohammed Salem al-Marri on Al Shaqab’s Coca de Alba was second, having clocked 40.07secs (QR 7,000), while Saudi Arabia’s Khaled Abdulaziz al-Eid, riding Moustic Des Flayelles, was third with a time of 40.63secs.
Qatar International Show Jumping Championship is the annual event hosted by the Qatar Equestrian Federation, and will be followed by Al Rayyan Championship from December 26-31.
