“Cyber fraudsters make use of multiple methods to entrap their victims and expose them to fraudulent transactions by employing different channels,” the ministry said in a post on social media.
One of the tools employed by them is scam messages, which people receive on their email or through calls and messages via mobile applications such as WhatsApp and Viber, the MoI noted.
Typically, these emails or messages tell people that they have won a lottery, offer them a lucrative job, seek help for the needy or ask them for assistance in transferring a huge amount of wealth in the form inheritance to another country. “Finally, these scam messages ask you to transfer a fee-like amount to their account using different money exchange service providers,” the ministry said, advising people not to get victimised by such fraud messages.
The MoI has asked people in Qatar to share their thoughts on the issue, asking them questions such as “Did you ever face these types of cyber scams?”, “How did you deal with them?”, “Have you ever been victimised by these gangs?” and “What are the ideal solutions to check these scams?”.

People may also report such cases through the MoI’s Metrash2 mobile application by selecting CID Service.
