Occidental Petroleum of Qatar (Oxy Qatar) has donated a number of children’s books written by Qatari author and Q Talent founder Maryam al-Subaiey to the Qatar National Library (QNL) during the recent Doha International Book Fair.
The books include four titles, three of them follow the story of Hamad and Hissa, a brother and sister who go through different situations that teach them about home and road safety, and environmental awareness.
The fourth book, “Heya Beya”, depicts the forgotten traditions that children used to perform during the pilgrimage season. QNL received 50 copies of each title to add to its growing children’s collection.
“This donation features local characters and settings, and tackles important topics that educate the next generation on issues relating to Qatar’s development,” QNL executive director Dr Sohair Wastawy said.
She noted that QNL is a strong advocate of books relating to Qatar and that are written by local authors.
“Donations such as these enrich our children’s collection and introduce the younger members of our diverse community to Qatari culture,” she added.
Oxy Qatar president and general manager Andrew H Kershaw echoed Wastawy’s statement saying this collection of Qatari children’s books is of great value to the wider community.
