The Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC), the lead of the national Breast and Bowel Screening Programme, ‘Screen for Life’, had a successful participation at the annual Darb Al Saai.
During the fortnight-long event, the ‘Screen For Life’ team promoted the importance of cancer screening with the prominent presence of the mobile screening unit that offered mammogram services.
“Our participation has further expanded our awareness campaign’s reach across the community and I am delighted that we have successfully reached out to many visitors to educate them about the benefits of early screening,” said Dr Mariam Ali Abdulmalik, managing director, PHCC.
In addition to inviting eligible women to be screened on site, visitors were able to gain further knowledge and information about early screening and initiatives led by the PHCC’s ‘Screen for Life’ programme.
Women aged between 45 and 69 who do not present any symptoms, are encouraged to undertake breast cancer screening every three years, whereas men and women aged between 50 and 74, showing no bowel cancer related symptoms should attend bowel cancer screening sessions on an annual basis.
PHCC operates a dedicated call centre number, 800 1112, which allows people to contact the team to arrange for appointments in advance at any one of its current screening suites at the Rawdat Al Khail, Leabaib and Al Wakra health centres.
