Qatar Airways, which has been supporting cricket in the country for a long time, will sponsor the prestigious National Cricket League once again, extending its relationship with the Qatar Cricket Association (QCA).
The QCA and Qatar Airways officials held a meeting recently and inked the sponsorship. On behalf of Qatar Airways, the meeting was attended by Manager Ticketing Operations, Qatar, Ali Akbar Farabi, QCA General Secretary Manzoor Ahmad and other QCA officials.
The popular league, which is also known as the Qatar Airways Cricket League, features over 60 teams in three divisions. The highest category is premier, which is played by top teams of Qatar. The other divisions are A, B and C.
Speaking on the occasion Ali Akbar Farabi said: “We are delighted to be a part of the National Cricket League once again. Every year, the League is a new experience as it is boosting the game and players to a large extent.
“It is an honour to be involved in such a community-building activity. Cricket unites a number of communities in Qatar and we, at
Qatar Airways, are privileged to contribute to it,” Farabi said. The QCA president MA Shahid expressed his gratitude to Qatar Airways for continuing its backing to the National Cricket League.
“We are extremely grateful to Qatar Airways and its group chief executive Akbar al-Bakar for the support to our prestigious National Cricket League once again.
“Both Qatar Airways and the Qatar Cricket Association have been working together for many years for the cause of the development of sport in Qatar. This had helped us immensely in shaping the game to the level what it is today. The final match of premier league will be played in the Asian town cricket stadium.
“Once again, we appreciate the great gesture shown by Qatar Airways and we hope to continue this ‘long innings’ for many more years to come,” Shahid said.
The QCA general secretary Manzoor Ahmad also praised Qatar Airways for showing its social commitment through the League sponsorship.
“Qatar Airways is one of the most prestigious airlines of the world. It cares a great deal for not only its business interests but also for its social responsibilities.
“Qatar Airways has been a driving force behind the development of the game in Qatar. We are fortunate to have the backing of such a committed organisation. Without the assistance of Qatar Airways, we would have not been able to achieve many of our achievements.
“Together with Qatar Airways, we hope sincerely that we will keep taking cricket to new heights,” Ahmad said.
