More than 700 people from Al Khor, Al Thakhira, and Al Shamal have benefited from Qatar Red Crescent Society’s (QRCS) lectures and courses held in schools, youth centres, and at its Al Khor office in the past couple of months.
QRCS continued its “I Am a Paramedic” health education lectures at several schools across Al Khor, teaching students how to apply first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation, as well as how to treat burns, fractures, nosebleeds, ear bleedings, arterial bleeding, epilepsy, and other special cases.
A group of students from Al Ghuwairia School also benefited from a presentation on basic first aid skills.
To reach out to as many community members, a team from Al Khor branch visited the audio education complex to explain QRCS’ activities and departments.
A specialist trainer introduced the students to first aid, stressing their important role in treating injuries. The lecture was translated by a sign language interpreter to ensure the effective transfer of information to the audience.
A first aid training session for expatriates who are at high risk of workplace injuries was also held at the branch.
As a partner of the region’s social and cultural institutions, the branch hosted a workshop on developing leadership skills by Al Khor Girls Centre.
Several topics were covered, including types of administrative leadership, authority delegation skills, strategic thinking, leadership ethics, and workload and dispute management. Forty women participated and engaged in a number of discussions.
Another workshop on the art of management was delivered by engineer Nasser al-Moghaiseeb, who addressed several issues such as modern management approaches, types of leadership, strategic and executive planning for team leaders, practical steps of building an effective team, and management of social and voluntary initiatives.
In addition, a lecture by Qatar Charity was held at one of the branch’s convention rooms.
QRCS’s ambulance vehicles and medics covered several events by youth centres, including a sports competition by Al Thakhira Youth Centre, which attracted 73 athletes.
Medical coverage was also provided during the Al Thakhira Marine Festival, whose manager commended QRCS’s co-operation with Al Shamal’s local community organisations.
