Ooredoo has officially opened registration for the 2017 Ooredoo Marathon, which will take place on Friday, January 13.
The annual event, which was launched in 2013, sees hundreds of runners take part every year. Ooredoo has promised that this year’s marathon will be ‘more professional than ever’, according to a press statement from the company.
Now in its fifth year
“Listening to feedback on last year’s event, the organising team aims to host a truly world-class marathon for Qatar, in the hope that the experience will inspire more people to taken up exercise and healthy living,” the statement noted.
Registration opened yesterday at marathon.ooredoo.qa and fees will range depending on the selected course and age of the participant.
Now in its fifth year, the Ooredoo Marathon will feature courses for runners of all abilities - including a 10km run, half-marathon, full marathon and a special children’s 1km fun run.
The route will start at the Museum of Islamic Arts Park and follow the Doha Corniche. Prizes will be awarded to the best runners in a range of categories, based on age and gender.
Fatima Sultan al-Kuwari, director of community and public relations at Ooredoo, said: “This year, we are challenging everyone in Qatar to run. We’re working to ensure the best possible experience for our competitors from start to finish and I encourage everyone to take part – whether walking or running along our beautiful Doha Corniche. This is a chance for you to get fit and be proud that you can do it.”
Ooredoo has also confirmed that 100% of this year’s registration fees for the Ooredoo Marathon will be donated to the charity, Reach Out to Asia.
The charity, which is chaired by HE Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani, aims to help develop the potential of Asia’s people through a network of centres devoted to progressive education, research and community welfare.
