Samsung has announced the launch of the latest addition to the Gear universe, the smartwatch Gear S3, in Qatar.
Unveiled at IFA 2016 in Berlin, the Gear S3 is available in two designs, Frontier and Classic, at a price of QR1,399.
Tarek Sabbagh, head of the IT and mobile (IM) division at Samsung Gulf Electronics, said: “With the Gear S3, we have integrated tradition and technology to deliver a truly intelligent smartwatch.”
Inspired by the active explorer, the Gear S3 Frontier “evokes a rugged outdoor look designed to perform in any setting or environment – whether business or leisure”, according to a press statement. The Gear S3 Classic pays homage to the “minimalist, elegant style found in the most iconic timepieces”.
The Gear S3 combines IP68 water resistance, wireless fast charging, SOS and location tracking capabilities and a dedicated speaker. The smartwatch is compatible with a range of Samsung smartphones.
For the first time in the Gear series, the S3 features Corning Gorilla Glass SR+, specifically designed for wearable devices to provide a tougher, more scratch resistant and crisp display. The 16mn colour Always On Display and Super AMOLED technology further differentiates the Gear S3 from other smartwatches.
The Gear S3’s signature rotating bezel has been enhanced with new features, while the built-in GPS functionality enables users to accurately monitor their daily fitness activities.
