The compact SUV segment is a rapidly growing segment in Qatar and GS4 is one of the newest entrants. Al Futtaim’s Doha Marketing Services Company (Domasco), the distributor for GAC in Qatar, unveiled the GS4 yesterday at their showroom on Salwa Road.
‘Extremely competitive pricing, feature-laden and good driveability’ are the factors which GAC are hoping will attract the consumers.
“GS4 is the highest selling GAC model in the world. Its sales constitute more than 50% of the total sales. The total target for GAC was to reach 500,000 vehicles by 2017. But already, just GS4 has sold 400,000 vehicles. So this dictates what our expectations are,” Faisal Sharif, the managing director at Domasco, told Gulf Times yesterday.
“It is excellently priced in Qatar and we have already sold out the first lot that we had ordered. It has all that it takes to become a leader in the compact SUV market,” he added.
The GS4 is available in Qatar with a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine that produces 150hp and an impressive 235Nm of torque, which the manufacturer claims is class leading.
It has a seven-speed G-DCT transmission which shifts gears in 0.2 second.
It has a 5-star C-NCAP safety rating. It’s a stylish looking SUV, which the company claims is well-matched by its driveability.
“We found so far that GAC Motor appeals to a wide demographic of people. Not just locals or any particular nationality. And the compact SUV segment is growing at a huge rate. People are driven by safety, features and value for money. And in all those key areas, we are the market leading,” said Andrew Parrot, head of sales and marketing for GAC at Domasco.
“The people are initially drawn by the price but then the level of specifications and the test drive – that’s what going to draw people. This has more torque than 2.5-litre, 1000cc engine. And ultimately that’s what’s going to sell this car – its driveability,” he added.
Sharif is confident that the GS4 has all that it takes to be a major player in this segment. “We’re looking to make a strong entry into this compact SUV segment. GS4 is an SUV that is better than the Koreans, as good as the Japanese and significantly more competitive than both. That’s the best recipe for success for all the stakeholders.”
GAC showroom manager Sushil Kumar, head of sales and marketing for GAC at Domasco Andrew Parrot, and head of marketing at Domasco Shaikh Rahman were also present at the launch of the GS4 at the GAC Showroom on Salwa Road.
