Leon Macklin scored 30 points and Fadi Hani chipped in with 20 as El Jaish romped to an 85-62 win over Al Arabi in the Qatar Basketball League yesterday.
In a one-sided match at the Al Gharafa Club, El Jaish made a fast start to lead 2-16 at the end of the first quarter and never looked back.
Macklin accumulated 28 points from field goals as the Al Arabi defence failed to contain him in the 37 minutes he was on the court.
Hadi also excelled up front, scoring four three-pointers to help El Jaish maintain their stranglehold on the opposition.
Dominic Davon was not too far behind with 18 points, while none of the other El Jaish players got into double digits.
For Al Arabi, Osaro Adako excelled with 20 points while Adamu Saaka and Gueye Talla had 18 and 10, respectively.
In another match, Michael Taylor virtually singled-handedly demolished the opposition as Al Gharafa thrashed Al Khor 90-68.
Taylor scored a game-high 41 points, 15 of which came from three-pointers, as Al Gharafa made a complete mockery of the Al Khor defence.
At no stage did Al Khor managed to lead their rivals even by a single point. Al Gharafa, on the other hand, were ahead all the time and at one point held a whopping 81-57 advantage.
Sammy Monroe (12) and Saleem Abdalla (11) also made useful contributions for the winners, while Al Khor were served well by Gary Darris and Ricky Young with 28 and 25 respectively.
Al Gharafa had 16 second chance points, while Al Khor only had 11. The Al Gharafa bench also made an impact with 16 points, while Al Khor only had 2.
Tomorrow Al Wakrah play Al Shamal at 5pm followed by a match between Qatar Sports Club and Al Rayyan at 7.15pm.
