Occidental Petroleum of Qatar Ltd (Occidental) has donated QR684,320 to Education Above All (EAA) to support greater access to education.
The funding will be used to provide more school places, support the enrolment of children in schools and experience quality learning that will equip them with the skills needed for a brighter future.
Andrew H Kershaw, president and general manager of Occidental, said: “We are proud to be working with Education Above All, which has a proven track record of reaching out to children across the world to enable them to experience quality learning. No child should be deprived of schooling; education is a route to opportunity and a route into employment, self-sufficiency and brings the potential to impact progress around the world.
“Occidental is committed to helping communities wherever it works and we believe that education is a key to unlocking a better world for the future generations - which is why we are partnering with Education Above All to offer them a better future.”
EAA, an initiative founded in 2012 by HH Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, operates globally to offer access to education to millions of children and young people whose lives have been affected by war, conflict, violence or poverty, or whose opportunity to learn is restricted by cultural barriers.
Fahad al-Sulaiti, CEO of Education Above All, said: “Education Above All is grateful for the support of Occidental for our programmes to reach some of the poorest and most marginalised children and young people.
“We are proud of what we have achieved since Education Above All was set up in 2012. Millions of children have benefited from the learning opportunities we provided. But there is still more to be done and, with partners like Occidental, we can enable more children to access a quality education.”
