Delegates from Qatar, other GCC countries, the Arab region and the rest of the world attended the fourth Arab Paediatric Pulmonology Association (APPA) Congress in Doha last week.
Hosted by Hamad Medical Corporation, the three-day event discussed medical updates and scientific insights into children’s lung health and provided opportunity for delegates to network with peers and learn from their varying experiences in different countries.
“It has been an honour for HMC to host this year’s congress,” said Prof Ibrahim A Janahi, senior consultant and division chief, Paediatric Pulmonology at HMC and founding member of APPA.
“Each year the congress goes from strength to strength and the quality of speakers and programme for this year’s event was exceptional,” he said.
The APPA congress is one of the leading events of its kind in the GCC and Arab world. Each year, leaders in the field of paediatric pulmonology come together to share the latest medical updates and research on the most important topics.
The keynote speech was delivered by Dr Nemr Eid, professor of paediatrics at the University of Louisville’s School of Medicine, Kentucky. In his presentation, Dr Eid highlighted the benefits of impulse oscillometry, a specialist technique for measuring lung function.
Other presentations focused on other topics including cystic fibrosis, childhood asthma and lower respiratory illnesses.
“Paediatric pulmonology is an area of great importance in the Arab world. Asthma, chronic coughing and respiratory problems are all prevalent in the region and can adversely affect the daily lives of many children. Events such as the APPA congress provide a valuable opportunity for experts from across the region to come together and work towards our shared goal of providing the best possible care for children with lung conditions,” Janahi said.
