The Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC), leader of the national breast and bowel screening programme ‘Screen for Life’, has joined the global ‘Movember’ awareness campaign, supporting cancer screening efforts in Qatar.
‘Movember’ is an annual event which urges men to grow moustaches during the month of November to raise awareness of various cancers, such as prostate cancer. The ‘Movember Foundation’ is a global charity focused on men’s health.
Following the breast cancer awareness, PHCC will be focusing on the bowel cancer screening throughout the month of November targeting Qatar’s female and male eligible population and encouraging bowel screening.
“Bowel cancer remains one of the two leading forms of cancers threatening the health of Qatar’s population and it is important for us to utilise global campaigns such as ‘Movember’ to further raise awareness and reiterate the importance of undergoing bowel screening,” Dr Shaikha Abu Shaikha, cancer programme manager at PHCC said.
“The Screen For Life programme has made considerable efforts in reaching the local community and we are keen to build on this to increase the effectiveness of our messaging. We are dedicated to providing the highest in medical care standards and health services for Qatar’s citizens and through such initiatives we are able to continue these efforts.”
PHCC encourages those aged between 50 and 74, who do not present any related symptoms, to undertake bowel cancer screening on an annual basis.
Men, and women, should call PHCC’s dedicated call centre number, 800 1112, to arrange for an appointment.
