The Ministry of Economy and Commerce (MEC) has carried out intensive inspection campaigns at retailers in different parts of the country to monitor suppliers’ compliance with obligations and regulations related to the practice of commercial activities.

The campaigns conducted by inspectors from the ministry resulted in the issuance of 81 violations, the MEC said in a press statement on Wednesday.
The violations included the expiry of commercial licences, activities that do not meet the mentioned conditions in the licence, activities that are not listed in the licence and utilising part of a shop as housing, as well as violations related to the brand name on the billboard, which does not match with the commercial name in the records.
The violating outlets were notified to “amend their status in commercial licences and records”, the statement noted.
The MEC has urged all traders and shop owners to abide by the applicable regulations and laws regarding the practice of commercial activities. Additionally, it has called on all traders and shop owners to access the relevant systems and regulations for the practice of commercial activities, by visiting the ministry’s website (www.mec.gov.qa) in order to avoid violations and legal proceedings.
Further, the MEC has advised consumers to report violations to the Consumer Protection and Anti-Commercial Fraud Department through the call centre – 16001, email - [email protected], Twitter - MEC_QATAR, Instagram - MEC_QATAR and the ministry’s application on iPhone and Android devices - MEC_QATAR.
