HH Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, Chairperson of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF), yesterday attended the opening ceremony of ‘Sheikh Jaber Al Ahmed Cultural Centre’, which was held in presence of Emir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmed al-Jaber al-Sabah.
‘Sheikh Jaber Al Ahmed Cultural Centre’ is a unique architecture and cultural monument, working for more openness to world cultures and creation a state of cultural and artistic dialogue with Kuwait, leading to the development of capabilities and civil concepts of the message of culture and arts.
The Kuwaiti emir opened the $750-mn centre and watched a spectacular show that combined international and local music.
Top Kuwaiti singers, artists and performers took part in the event which was also attended by a large number of local and foreign dignitaries.
The sprawling 214,000 square metres centre is located in the heart of the capital Kuwait City and comprises four buildings, a theatre centre, a music centre, a conference centre and a library for historical documents.
The four buildings at the centre, whose geometric design was inspired by Islamic architecture, are covered with thousands of square metres of titanium shell.
Named after the late emir Sheikh Jaber al-Ahmed, the centre has several state-of-the art halls, including a 1,200-seat concert hall, as well as an indoor parking facility for 3,200 vehicles.
