The victory at Al Ahli stadium was Shahania’s second of the season

Qatar Stars League newcomers Al Shahania stunned Al Sailiya with a hard-fought 2-1 win last night. Two goals in five second half minutes settled the tie for the Oryxes, thanks to strikes from Mohamed Tiaiba and Abdullah al-Yazidi on the 65th and 70th minute respectively at Al Ahli stadium.
Al Sailiya attacker Mohammed Muddather reduced the deficit with a goal in the 93rd minute of the tie. After a cagey start to the tense clash, Al Shahania eventual goal hero Abdullah al-Yazidi produced a moment of excitement for his team inside the Al Sailiya box. Lurking inside the area, al-Yazidi tapped a lob ball in front of him and quickly swiveled before letting go a ferocious shot towards Al Sailiya goalmouth.
The ball beat Al Sailiya goalkeeper Gregory Gomis but narrowly missed the crossbar in the 22nd minute. Seconds later Shahania‘s Algerian attacker Mohamed Tiaiba fired a long-range shot but his ball was deflected by a diving Gomis, Al Sailiya’s last line of defence.
Four minutes later, Al Sailiya registered their first chance of note through a long-range shot through Mirghani al-Zain but his shot was superbly tipped over the bar by Shahania goalkeeper Khalifa al-Dosari for a corner kick.
Al Sailiya conceded a penalty on the 65th minute when substitute Mohammed Muddather brought down Nabeel Anwer with a rough tackle. Tiaiba stepped up and lofted the ball into the top right side of the net to give his side the lead.
Five minutes later, a solo effort by al-Yazidi saw the Oryxes go 2-0 up. Al-Yazidi sprinted from the half-line before receiving a ball some 60 yards from the goal. Al-Yazidi, who was closely tracked by the Sailiya defence continued towards the goal before producing a composed shot past Gregory Gomis. Seconds before the end of the game Al Sailiya grabbed a consolation. Muddather fired from the edge of the box, but it proved too late for Sami Trabelsi’s side. The victory was Shahania’s second of the season.

Al Khor scored three first half goals through Madson and a brace from Moroccan striker Mouhcine Iajour to ensure the Knights second victory of the season. Ahli grabbed a late consolation from the penalty spot thanks to Meshal Abullah. The visitors started well and Madson, Khor’s 30-year-old Brazilian attacking midfielder, opened the scoring in the 7th minute.
Unmarked near the box, Madson moved in anticipation after the ball was passed onto him by a teammate from the left flank. After dodging one defender, the Brazilian forward met the ball half-way inside the Al Ahli box before clipping a neat ball past a charging Abdulla al-Dosari.
